Description:
|
Because the HIV
infection rate was higher than many estimated, the
country faced an urgent need to curtail a widespread
HIV/AIDS epidemic. Although the overall infection rate
today stands at 2.8 percent, HIV/AIDS is concentrated in
urban areas where the rate is 4.4 percent. The rate is as
high as 5 percent among pregnant women in Conakry
and 7 percent in the Guinée Forestiére region. |
