On September 14, 2005, UNAIDS launched the inaugural issue of the UNAIDS-led Global Coalition on Women and AIDS briefing series, entitled "Educate girls, Fight AIDS," which outlines how ensuring access to basic education, especially for girls, is itself effective HIV prevention. The Global Coalition briefing series was launched with this issue by UNAIDS Executive Director Dr. Peter Piot at a meeting hosted by Mrs. Nane Annan and the First Ladies of Africa held in conjunction with the 2005 World Summit in New York. |
